By beating Ukrainian Khimik, the defending champions Novara took 3 important points in the race for the top spot in Pool C: 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-12) in just over an hour. The Italian side obtained the 4th victory in 5 matches played. In 2 weeks, Novara will play the crucial match for progressing to the quarterfinals, at home against Polish ŁKS Commercecon Łódź. Despite achieving a straight-set victory, and such a convincing one, Novara had as many as 4 players with double digits in scoring, led by Serbian Jovana Brakočević Canzian (13 points). American Micha Hancock served 6 aces, which was exactly 60% of all of her points. Chiara Di Iulio made 92% reception (12 digs, 50% excellent).

Lokomotiv Kaliningrad region remained in contention for the Playoff, but only theoretically, after sweeping the home side of Nova KBM Branik Maribor in Slovenia. The fate of the Russian team will be pretty much determined after tomorrow’s clash between Savino Del Bene Scandicci from Italy and Turkish VakıfBank İstanbul.
