AO Thiras Santorini showed that the vice-leaders position in the Greek Championship, which they hold at the moment, isn’t a coincidence. A team based in one of the most beautiful islands in the Aegean Sea redeemed for losing the first leg in Switzerland against Kanti Schaffhausen (3-2) and recorded a 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17) win in the rematch. The most deserving player for Thiras’ progression to the quarterfinals was Cuban Yaremis Mendaro Leyva, who poured in 17 points in the 2nd leg. American Kelsie Payne and Czech Kateřina Holásková scored 13 points apiece for the losing side with the latter serving 5 aces. American Jessica Wagner made 5 kill blocks.

Turkish side THY İstanbul wrote down another straight-set victory over C.S.M. Lugoj from Romania to confidently march into the quarterfinals.
