Polish DevelopRes SkyRes Rzeszów played a completely different match than in the first leg and cornered trophy holders Unet e-work Busto Arsizio in the rematch of the 8th finals. The team coached by the Frenchman Stéphane Antiga redeemed for a straight-set defeat on the road and achieved the triumph of the same value at home: 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 27-25). So, the Golden Set had to resolve which side will go into the next stage and that’s when Busto showed that competing in such a strong national championship as Italian really makes the difference: 15-11. American Karsta Lowe scored 18 points for Busto, making as many as 54 kills! Zuzanna Efimienko-Młotkowska and American Alexandre Frantti tallied 15 points apiece for DevelopRes.

Contrary to what was expected, Russian giants Dinamo Kazan didn’t have any difficulties in the rematch against Saugella Monza from Italy.

Hermes Rekkenshop Oostende were on the right track to eliminate Asterix Avo Beveren in the all-Belgian clash. After losing by a 3-2 in the first leg, they got 2-0 in the rematch but then lost the grip and dropped the next 3 sets.

The most dramatic encounter occurred in the Croatian capital of Zagreb in which the home side of Mladost Zagreb recorded the win in the tie-break over Hungarian Fatum Nyíregyháza. Since Nyíregyháza prevailed in the first match with the same result, the Golden Set had to be played and in it, Mladost managed to overcome the pressure and 4-point deficit to advance to the quarterfinals.
