Even though they confidently beat Belgium’s Maaseik in the 1st leg of the 2021 Men’s Volleyball CEV Cup semifinals, Russia’s Zenit Saint Petersburg put their promotion to the final in jeopardy with the performance in the rematch. They got swept by the rivals (3-0: 25-23, 25-17, 25-19) and were forced to seek progression in the Golden Set, which was highly dramatic and ended with an 18-16 for Zenit.
Ivan Podrebinkin stood out on the Russian side with 16 points. Egor Kliuka had 70 % reception (6 digs, 37 % excellent) even though as many as 46 attacks of the players of the opposing team went straight at him. Jolan Cox scored 16 points for Maaseik, while the Dutchman Jelte Maan served 5 aces.
