In an intense semi-final matchup against the Netherlands in Brussels, Serbia clinched victory after a grueling 112 minutes of play. The team won the match 3-1, with set scores of 25-21, 15-25, 25-22, and 25-21. The performance further underscores why Serbia’s women are often hailed as volleyball royalty—having already won back-to-back world championships, an Olympic bronze medal, and multiple European Championship medals.

Head coach Giovanni Guidetti steered the team through a challenging game where Serbian setter Maja Ognjenović initially sat out due to a fever. However, she made a comeback in the 3rd set and guided the team to a win. After losing the second set, the Serbians bounced back by rectifying their earlier mistakes and sharpening their serves, successfully neutralizing the Dutch threat and sealing their spot in the finals. Tijana Boskovic was the match top scorer with 29 points.

With this achievement, Serbia guarantees its eighth European Championship medal, adding to a trophy case that already boasts 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes from past competitions. They will now face Turkey in the final match on September 3rd, following Turkey’s narrow 3-2 win over Italy in the first semi-final.

While fans eagerly anticipate this high-stakes final, the Netherlands and Italy will duel for the third-place finish. This latest advance by Serbia only solidifies its standing as one of the international juggernauts in women’s volleyball, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying showdown against Turkey for the European title.
