Allianz Vero Volley Milano clinched their first-ever spot in the CEV Champions League SuperFinals by overcoming Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul. The semi-final clash ended with Milano winning the crucial Golden Set, ensuring their presence in Europe’s most prestigious club competition’s final.
The match, played amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the Burhan Felek Voleybol Salonu. Despite Fenerbahce’s initial dominance and wining the match 3-1, Milano, under the leadership of Marco Gaspari and the stellar performance of Paola Egonu, mounted a remarkable comeback to clinc Golden Set and to advance to Grand Finals. Paola Egonu played a pivotal role in turning the tide in Milano’s favor, especially during the critical moments in the decisive Golden Set.
Fenerbahce, led by Stefano Lavarini, showcased their prowess with Melissa Vargas and Arina Fedorovtseva leading the charge. However, their efforts were not enough to halt the determined Milano side. The match concluded with scores of 3-1 in favor of Fenerbahce but saw Milano triumph in the Golden Set with an 11-15 victory.
Paola Egonu led the scorers’ list with an incredible tally of 35 points, including 33 killing spikes at a 49% success rate, 1 ace, and 1 block, earning her the MVP title. For Fenerbahce, Melissa Vargas contributed 29 points, while Arina Fedorovtseva added 25.
This victory not only propels Allianz Vero Volley Milano into the SuperFinals for the first time but also marks Paola Egonu’s fifth consecutive appearance in this prestigious stage. The SuperFinals, set to take place on May 5th in Turkey.
