Asseco Resovia Rzeszów secured the CEV Cup 2024 title, defeating SVG Luneburg in a straight-set victory. The win marks Resovia’s first European trophy, a historic achievement for the Polish club.
Despite needing only two sets to claim the trophy following last week’s 3-0 win in Germany, Resovia faced a challenging start in front of a home crowd of 4,300 supporters. Luneburg’s Erik Rohrs and Xander Ketrzynski initially set a high standard. However, Resovia overcame early difficulties, taking the first set 27-25 in, showcasing their experience and resilience.
The team’s defense was particularly impressive, with 7 killing blocks, three of which came from Karol Kłos, highlighting a strong block performance. Stephan Boyer led the scoring for Resovia with a match-high 14 points in just two sets, earning the MVP award for his contributions. His performance included 10 winning spikes and 4 block points.
Resovia’s comprehensive win was sealed with a 3-0 final score (27-25, 25-18, 25-22), concluding a dominant run in the CEV Cup without dropping a single set in the final matches.
