PGE Budowlani Łódź secured their first victory of the current CEV Women’s Champions League group stage, defeating Sport Lisboa e Benfica in straight sets at home on Tuesday evening. The Polish side delivered a confident performance after a tense opening set, giving their fans plenty to cheer about.
The opening set was the only moment of real suspense. Both teams traded points in a tight battle, but Budowlani Łódź showed composure in the closing stages to edge it 28–26. From that point on, the hosts took full control of the match, dominating in serve, reception, and attack.
Łódź raised the tempo in the second set, quickly building a clear advantage and closing it out 25–13. The third set followed a similar pattern, with the home side maintaining pressure throughout and sealing the match 25–15 to complete a convincing 3–0 win.
Maja Storck led the scoring with 19 points, while Rodica Buterez delivered an all-around performance that earned her the MVP award, contributing 15 points and strong work in reception. Paulina Damaske and Joanna Lelonkiewicz also reached double figures. For Benfica, Cansu Cetin was the most effective attacker with 10 points.
After the match, Buterez highlighted the importance of the result, saying the team stayed focused from start to finish to secure a much-needed first win in the competition. Storck echoed those sentiments, noting that patience and discipline were key after their earlier loss in Lisbon.
