CEV CL W: Milan Cruise Past Olympiacos

Numia Vero Volley Milano took a significant step toward the CEV Champions League quarterfinals with a commanding 3-0 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus. The Italian side wrapped up the first-leg playoff match in just 69 minutes, winning 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 at the Melina Merkouri Hall.

Paola Egonu led the way with 17 points and earned MVP honors, once again proving decisive on the European stage. Milano’s strength at the net made the difference, as they outblocked the hosts 12-6 and maintained greater attacking efficiency throughout the match.

Serbian middle blocker Hena Kurtagic added 10 points, including six blocks, while Anna Danesi also contributed 10 points for the visitors. For Olympiacos, Milica Kubura delivered a team-high 16 points, and Jovana Stevanovic added 10, but the Greek side struggled to match Milano’s consistency.

Milano finished with five aces, 12 blocks, and just 10 total errors, compared to 21 errors from the home team.

The second leg will be played on February 25 in Italy, where Olympiacos must secure a straight-sets win to force a golden set and keep their campaign alive. Milano, meanwhile, head home in full control of the tie and firmly on course for the next round.
