It seems that Lube Civitanova players have definitely learned their lesson from the 2017 CEV Champions League opening, when they lost to Berlin Recycling Volleys.

Ever since, Italian powerhouse did not drop a single set in Pool B. Lube especially showed power against the toughest opponents in the pool, Polish silver medalists Resovia Rzeszów whom they beat in straight sets, two times in a row. This time, Lube allowed rivals to win more points than two weeks ago, but basically, it was a cat-and-mouse game 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 15-16).

Lube was highly dominant service (9 aces) and attack 58% where Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov and Osmany Juantorena stood out with 15 points each. Canadian Gavin Schmitt was the only player worth mentioning in Resovia with 11 points.

This season’s Halkbank Ankara project failed in the Champions League. After they have suffered fourth defeat in a row in Pool E, and fourth overall, Turkish title holders said goodbye to the most elite European club tournament. Belgian Knack Roeselare ruled Halkbank, 3-0 (25-12, 31-29, 25-18). Hendrik Tuerlinckx topped Roeselare’s scorers with 20 points. Serbian Ivan Miljković had 12 in Halkbank, who will now have to focus all their strength towards domestic championship where they also struggle. In Turkey, Halkbank occupy fifth place in the standings with 8-5.

Polish Skra Bełchatów beat Slovenian ACH Ljubljana 3-1 in Pool D to claim spot No.2.
