So far, Women’s NT of Ukraine has only one medal on its account since the country got the independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 – a bronze from the 1993 CEV European Championship – but it has never grabbed the gold meda before. Until this year.
In 2017, Ukraine moved all boundaries related to the senior female volleyball in the country by firstly advancing to the first-ever European League semi-final, then to the first-ever final of the tournament, all the way to beating Finland twice in four days to claim the title.
In the 2nd leg of the finals at home court in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine achieved another 3-1 win led by Nadiia Kodola and Anna Stepanyuk, who both scored 19 points. In Finland, Piia Korhonen made 24.
