Germany, who surprised most of the volleyball fans by making a convincing display in the Preliminary Round and qualifying directly to the quarterfinals of the 2017 CEV European Championship, managed to top the Czech Republic in four sets in Katowice, annulling the rival’s huge accomplishment in the Playoffs against the title holders France, 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20).
The players coached by Andrea Giani achieved a victory despite committing as much as 23 service errors. But, they fixed the impression with the 67% of positive receptions.
Georg Grozer scored 23 points for Germany, while Michal Finger notched 21 for the losing side.
So far in the European Championship’s history, Germany managed to go to the semi-finals two times and in both cases, they succumbed to Italy – in 1991 and 1993.
In the semis of EuroVolley 2017, Germany will face winners of Serbia vs. Bulgaria.
