The last place of Italy in Group 1 of the 2017 FIVB World League definitely was not a coincidence. The „Azzurri“ succumbed to the amazing National Team of Belgium in the quarterfinals of the EuroVolley 2017, in Katowice, 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-23).
Looking at the way they played tonight’s game, which reflected in the result by the sets, especially in the second set, we can freely say that the „Red Dragons“ humiliated Italy to make their biggest success in the European Championship, and second best success in the history of their Men’s NT after they won gold in the CEV European League in 2013.
Belgium out-blocked Italy (14-4) and played the nearly perfect game, making only two attacking errors and three in reception!
Sam Deroo scored 16 points for the winning side, while Luca Vettori collected 12 for Italy.
