The team from Groningen beat Seesing Personeel/Orion Doetinchem 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) in a sold-out home gymnasium “MartiniPlaza” (4,350 spectators) in Game 3 of playoff finals. Lycurgus broke the record of the most spectators ever at a Dutch League game. Thus, the Dutch legend Wytze Kooistra, Canadian Jay Blankenau and other players coached by Arjan Taaij won the best-of-five series by 3-0, not dropping a single set in finals.
“This championship crown is for the glory of many people here. Since the club was established, it was the dream of many players, coaches and administrators. We have shown to be the best and to become champions in such an atmosphere throughout the year is beautiful. The Dutch volleyball is not always easy, and the only way to achieve success is to show ambition and to push the boundaries. We have definitely made it in this final series,” coach of Lycurgus said.
VC Sneek did it again! They became Women’s Dutch champions last season for the first time since 1992 and this season they have repeated the success and took the 10th title overall. In the big finals they Sneek defeated Springendal Set-up’65 three times (3-1; 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-20 in Game 3) and deservedly won the trophy. Carlijn Ghijssen-Jans was the top scorer in Sneek with 17 points. Kirsten Oude Luttikhuis and Loes Hollink had 12 in Springendal.
