NED W: Steenbergen retires from Dutch National Team due to pregnancy

Quinta Steenbergen, a 31-year-old middle blocker, said goodbye to the Dutch Women’s Volleyball National Team.

Steenbergen is pregnant, expecting her first child with partner Dennis and will now focus on a career in social work – she will start working at the hospital in Alkmaar, The Netherlands.

Steenbergen collected 221 caps for the Dutch National Team and was part of the Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro, last summer. She made her debut for the Dutch NT in 2004, winning silver medal at the CEV European Championships and bronze in the FIVB World Grand Prix in the years that followed.

Besides playing with the clubs in her home country, Steenbergen has worn jerseys of French, Azerbaijani, German and Czech clubs. After the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, middle blocker took several months of break from volleyball before she decided to join Dutch reigning champion Sneek. With them, Steenbergen won the national cup, last weekend.
