Strassen

Strassen entered 2016/2017 Luxembourgian Men’s Volleyball Championship (Novotel-Ligue) playoff finals against VC Fentange as underdogs, losing both Regular Season games to rivals by 3-1 as well as in the national Cup final.

Strassen secured only third place in Regular Season while Fentange confidently took top spot with 13-1 and 39 points, eight points more than Strassen.

Nevertheless, it all became relevant in the playoff finals as Strassen took double 3-2 win (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26, 15-13 in Game 2), winning the trophy at rival’s court.

Strassen’s roster abounds with foreign players like: Bulgarian opposite Lyubomir Milanov, Italian receiver Giulio Gatti, German receiver Peter Schmitt… coached by German Ulf Quel.

Walfer

Walfer

As for Women’s Championship, RSR Walfer beat CHEV Diekirch two times by 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26) in the playoff finals, adding national title to the Cup trophy and winning their first, so-called, double crown.

Walfer also have several international players without whom they would not be able to imagine becoming Luxembourgian title holders: French middle blocker Kelly Sakponou, Bulgarian  all-round Marina Antova (player and coach)… etc.
