The Hungarian female volleyball went uphill in the last two years, starting with the gold medal from the 2015 CEV Europen League and ending with the title in Group 3 of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. But, between these two successes, many players canceled their participation in the national team for various reasons – injuries, personal issues or retirement: Szandra Szombathelyi, Evelin Vacsi, Andrea Pintér, Zsanett Kötél, Zsófia Kalotai, Noémi Leidgeb, Dór Kötél, Ágnes Pallag, Dorottya Bodnár, Rita Molcsányi and Renáta Sándor.
So, only a quartet from a squad that grabbed the gold medal in 2015 EL will play EuroVolley 2017. Even the head coach is new: the Italian Alberto Salomoni replaced Belgian Jan de Brandt. He decided to summon only 13 players, instead of maximum 14 allowed, for the 2017 European Champs.
