WCH 2018 W: Koga led Japan in a very hard match against the Dominican Republic

After five sets against the Dominican Republic, Japan at the end celebrated two important points in the second round of the FIVB Women’s World Championship.

Japan started the match with 2-0 but in the second set, everybody saw that the hosts have some problems in their play. The next two matches were finished on the Caribbean side and the match started to be more interesting.

In the fifth set teams, Japan took a 3-0 lead. Mai Okumura had a service ace to take the lead of 5-2. Koga hammered a spike and Japan led 13-9 and looked to close it out. Japan clinched the set and finished the match with 15-11.

Sarina Koga was the top scorer of the match with 23 points followed by Ai Kurogo who added 20 points and Mai Okumura 11 points for Japan.

Bethania De La Cruz was the top scorer in the loss for the Dominicans with 21 points.

Japan entered the match with a 4-1 record, while the Dominican Republic was 3-2.

Brazil – Germany 2-3 (25-14, 25-19, 30-32, 19-25, 15-17)

Netherlands – Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20)

Japan – Dominican Republic 3-2 (25-17, 28-26, 22-25, 25-27, 15-11)

 

Standings: Serbia (6-0) 18, Netherlands (6-0) 17, Japan (5-1) 15, Brazil (4-2) 13, Germany (4-2) 11, Dom. Republica (3-3) 10, Puerto Rico (2-4) 6, Mexico (1-5) 3.

Russia – Turkey 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16)

USA – Bulgaria 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-11)

Italy – Azerbaijan 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-10)

China – Thailand 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-23)

 

Standings: Italy (6-0) 18, USA (6-0) 16, China (5-1) 15, Russia (5-1) 15, Thailand (3-3) 10, Turkley (3-3) 9, Azerbaijan (2-4) 6, Bulgaria (2-4) 6.
