Of course, both coaches used combined squads for this clash. Yuki Ishikawa led his team with 17 points, while on the other side David Mehic had 12 points.

It was the first win of the Japanese men’s national team over Serbia in the previous 8 years. The boys from Japan controlled the situation all the time and there was no space for the home team to come back in the race for the win.

France-vs-Russia

France-vs-Russia

France served cold revenge on Russia for losing the last year’s final to open their 2019 Nations League campaign successfully. The “Les Bleus” prevailed by a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23), spoiling a debut of Tuomas Sammelvuo as Russia head coach. Interestingly, France beat Russia in the first week of the last year’s edition of the tournament, too. The “Les Bleus” head coach Laurent Tillie decided to give a rest to some major players of the team, like Ngapeth and Toniutti, in Week 1. As for Russia, they cannot count on the best spiker of a Preliminary Round in 2018, Dmitriy Muserskiy, and will be deprived of his help until the end of the tournament as he underwent the inguinal hernia surgery prior to the Nations League. Jean Patry top-scored for France with 16 points, while Nicolas Le Goff made 4 kill blocks. Egor Kliuka scored 20 points for Russia, including 4 kill blocks and 4 aces.
