Tokyo crowd could see an amazing match on Day 1 in Pool 7 of the second week of the tournament as Iran were a set up against Brazil twice but succumbed in the tie-break: 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 33-31, 15-10). Thus, the “Seleção“ remained unbeaten in the 2019 VNL with a 4-0 record, preventing Iran to make the same record in the tournament (3-1). Actually, Iran’s seven-game winning streak in the Nations League, including the last year’s edition, came to an end today.

Ricardo Lucarelli was the best scorer in Brazil with 20 points. The head coach of the South American giants, Marcelo Fronckowiak, who has been replacing an actual head coach Renan Dal Zotto (banned for 4 games by the FIVB), used 13 of 14 registered players on the roster against Iran! Seyed Mousavi scored 19 points for the Asian side, including 5 kill blocks.
