On Week 2 closing in Pool 5 in Ningbo, China, the national team of Bulgaria came back from two sets down against France, who suffered their first defeat (5-1 record) in the 2019 VNL: 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-11). In the same time, Silvano Prandi’s wards broke their series of four consecutive defeats. Bulgaria head coach couldn’t count on outside hitter Todor Skrimov for the match as he suffered an injury against Poland, yesterday. Rozalin Penchev was Bulgaria’s most prolific player with 17 points, while Krasimir Georgiev set up 5 kill blocks. Jean Patry scored 13 for the “Les Bleus”.

Poland national team beat Pool 5 hosts China in straight sets to reach their fourth win in the tournament (4-2). The Asian side remained with only one victory (1-5). The bad news for the Polish fans is that middle blocker Michał Szalacha, who made his debut for the national team against France two days ago, suffered a fracture of the little finger of his right hand and will be sidelined for four to six weeks, which means that his playing in the 2019 VNL is over even if Poland qualify for the Final Six. Dawid Konarski and Mateusz Bieniek (4 aces) scored 11 points apiece for the winning side. Dai Qingyao made 10 for China.
