Even without main stars of the team, Serbia continued Week 3 of the 2019 VNL the same way they finished Week 2 – with a win. Actually, it was a third straight victory for the national team from the Balkans, and it came against Olympic Games winners Brazil, who are no longer an unbeaten team in the tournament (6-1).
Serbia were 1-0 and 2-1 down in sets before closing the encounter in Gondomar, Portugal, in the tie-break: 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 15-12). Interestingly, Serbia (3-4 record) played the tie-break for the fifth successive 2019 VNL game!
Lazar Ćirović was Serbia’s top scorer in the game (12 points), despite the fact that he had only 36% attack success rate (9-25). Ricardo Lucarelli scored 20 points for Brazil, while Yoandy Leal made 4 kill blocks. Bruno Rezende made his debut for the “Seleção“ in the 2019 VNL.
