Russia surpassed world champions Poland on Day 1 (Week 3) in Pool 11 by a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19), recording the sixth straight win in the 2019 VNL (6-1).
It was Viktor Poletaev’s night as he poured in 18 points, while Ivan Yakovlev set up 4 kill blocks. Bartosz Kwolek top-scored for Poland with 15. Jakub Kochanowski made 4 kill blocks. Poland are at 4-3.
Iran (6-1) took the first win against Canada (4-3) at a major world-level tournament after suffering three defeats prior to Pool 11 match in the 2019 VNL at home soil in Urmia.
Amir Ghafour notched 16 points for Iran in a straight-set victory, while Stephen Maar made 13 for Canada.
