Brazil, whose preliminary round campaign was not perfect (2-1) but was enough to secure them a place in the Top 8, swept Pool E and progressed to the semifinals as the No.1 in the pool (3-0 and 9 points). In the last round, the “Seleção“ beat South Korea in straight sets, partially 25-19, 25-13, and 25-19, thanks to an amazing team’s blocking display (17). As much as 8 players of Brazil made at least one kill block. Guilherme Santos, playing for Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Rainbow Warriors in the NCAA, stood out in this element with 4 kill blocks. This summer’s signing of Brazilian Superliga newcomers América-MG, the opposite hitter Welinton Oppenkoski, top-scored for Brazil with 16 points.

In the same pool, Russia achieved a last-minute advancement to the semis by beating direct rivals China by a 3-0. Lokomotiv Novosibirsk youth team opposite hitter Maksim Sapozhkov was the best scorer for “Zbornaya“ with 16 points. Russia finished as the No.2 (2-1 and 6 points) in the pool.

Italy had to take only 2 sets in their last-round match against Argentina to secure a spot in the final four. Nevertheless, the “Azzurri“ took 3 sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-19), won and topped Pool F (3-0 and 9 points). The team lead by a female head coach Monica Cresta, which is a highly rare situation in the Men’s Volleyball, was invincible in the preliminary round as well (3-0). Consar Ravenna duo Lorenzo Cortesia and Francesco Recine scored 9 points apiece for Italy.

Iran took the opportunity to skip Argentina in the charts and advance to the semis. The Asian side swept the hosts Bahrain by a 3-0 with 15 points from Paykan Tehran opposite hitter Porya Yali and 4 kill blocks from his club teammate Mehran Feyzemamdoust. Thus, Iran claimed the No.2 in the pool with a 2-1 record and 6 points, which is 3 more than Argentina.

The reigning champions Poland were eliminated already in the preliminary round.
