Iran did not allow Mexico to give them hard time like Cuba on Day 1 and swept the Central American side by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 27-25) in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The Montenegrin head coach on the bench of Iran national team, Igor Kolaković, rested most of his starters (Ebadipuor, Marouf, Mousavi and Ghafour) for the crucial match for qualifying to the Tokyo Olympics against Russia, tomorrow, introducing a mix of backups and young players. But, even so, the Asian giants managed to take a straight-set win.
Porya Yali was Iran’s most prolific player with 20 points. Daniel Vargas scored 19 for Mexico.
Russia-vs-Cuba
The home side of Russia wrote down a second victory at the Olympic qualification tournament. The wards of Tuomas Sammelvuo beat Cuba by a 3-0 even though the Finnish expert left Mikhaylov, Muserskiy and Volvich on the bench.
The most productive players in the match scored 15 points apiece. One came from the Russian team – Dmitriy Volkov, while the other was on the Cuban team – Jesús Herrera.
