Defending champions USA cruised past Serbia in straight sets to remain the only team at the 2021 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League on full points and a perfect 4-0 record.
“In my opinion [USA] are the best team here. They came here with the strongest roster, they have many great players and every player who enters the court performs very well. We played with even younger players than in previous matches, because we know how many games are still ahead of us, so some players could rest to be ready for the following matches – Katarina Lazovic.
“I think early on in this VNL tournament all the teams can say they are just trying to settle in and see what different line-ups can do – and that’s what we are doing. We have a couple of girls who haven’t seen a court yet this season and we all haven’t played together since 2019, so it’s been a long time. So, we are doing a great job staying patient and managing some of the good jitters that come along with getting back our rhythm. The Serbian team is very young and talented. Right from the start they were going after us from the service line and doing some very impressive serves,” says Jordyn Poulter.
Arina Fedorovtseva led the Russian team (18 points) to the win over Italy in straight sets. On the other side, Sylvia Chinelo Nwakalor was the best scorer with 22 points.
“We started nervously, but during the match we were constantly improving our game. We have to be patient, because we are a young team. We could play better in block and defence, but it was just two or three balls that made a difference, so we have to keep growing and working,” Bosio (Francesca Italy).
