Stefano Lavirini had a successful official debut as the head coach of the Poland Women’s Volleyball National Team.
Poland debuted in the 2022 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League with a victory over Canada in Pool 1 in Shreveport-Bossier City, USA, earning its first win in general under the command of Stefano Lavarini. The longer the match with the North American side lasted, the better the team of the Italian expert looked. However, weak spots that emerged in friendlies (2 defeats against Germany) back at home before the tournament were visible in today’s match as well. Poland was in constant pursuit in the first set and won the next three, two of which with the tight margin.
In the history of matches with Canada, Poland is undefeated, and there were already 7 head-to-heads in tournaments under the aegis of the FIVB. This streak was successfully maintained for the opening of this year’s VNL mostly thanks to Martyna Łukasik (17 points) and Maria Stenzel (82.61% reception: 19/23).
Also in Pool 1 in Shreveport-Bossier City, Japan swept Korea in the Asian big match. Korea was helpless to the fierce attacks of Japan’s star outside hitter Sarina Koga (22 points). Apart from being her team’s second-best top scorer, Mayu Ishikawa was exceptional in reception for Japan with 70.59% (12/17).
