In its first match of the World Championship in 2022, the Poland National Team prevailed over Bulgaria 3-0 at home in Katowice in Pool C in which, earlier, the United States defeated Mexico also with a score of 3-0. Bulgarians had a very small number of tangible chances to make a duel uncertain. For instance, in the second, they had 12-10 and in the third set, they managed to catch up with the Poles after 4-8 and get 10-9. However, Poland regained initiative soon afterward and calmly stirred the match toward victory which came in the same place in which the ‘white and reds’ won the world title less than eight years ago, more precisely, 2,896 days later.

Kamil Semeniuk was huge in serving as he grounded 5 aces to add them to the match-high 16 points. Bartosz Kurek served 4 aces.

Slovenia, for whom this is the second World Championship appearance, opened their campaign with a match against, on paper, the easiest rival in Pool D, Cameroon. The African runners-up proved to be an unfavorable opponent at times, but they had no real chance against the quality of the co-hosts: 0-3.

Tonček Štern top-scored Slovenia with 18 points, including 5 aces. Arthur Voukeng tallied 11 points for Cameroon.
