In a thrilling day of volleyball action, the teams of Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey emerged victorious in the Pool 6 matches of the third week of the Volleyball Nations League 2023.
Italy faced off against Canada in a crucial match that had significant implications for their chances of qualifying for the VNL Finals in Arlington, USA. In a hard-fought battle, Italy secured a thrilling 3-2 victory (22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 24-26, 15-10). The Italian duo of Alice Degradi and Francesca Villani played a pivotal role in their team’s triumph, contributing 21 points each. Canada put up a strong fight, with team captain Alexa Gray leading the scoring charts with 18 points, supported by Kiera Van Ryk (15 points) and Emily Maglio (13 points).
The Netherlands showcased their prowess in a commanding 3-1 victory (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20) over Japan. Celeste Plak emerged as the top scorer of the match, delivering an impressive 24 points for the Dutch team. Nika Daalderop also made significant contributions with 16 points. Yukiko Wada and Sarina Nishida (Koga) were Japan’s main scorers, notching 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Turkey continued their dominant run with a comprehensive 3-0 win (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) over Brazil. Ebrar Karakurt led the Turkish offense with an exceptional display, amassing 19 points. Maiara Basso was Brazil’s leading scorer with 12 points.
