In a groundbreaking achievement at the Volleyball Nations League 2023 final tournament in Gdansk, Poland, Japan secured a coveted spot in the semifinals. The team’s brilliant 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-22) victory over Slovenia marked their first advancement beyond the quarterfinals. The standout player, Captain Yuki Ishikawa, left the court with 27 points, the match’s highest score. His teammates Yuji Nishida and Ran Takahashi also made notable contributions, scoring 12 and 9 points, respectively. Slovenian counterparts Alen Pajenk and Tine Urnaut each achieved 12 points.

The other semifinal match will see the United States, fresh from their 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 17-25, 24-26, 15-9) victory over defending champions France, face off against the world champions, Italy, who recently triumphed over Argentina with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-14) win.
