Türkiye men’s national volleyball team achieved a remarkable victory at the Volleyball Challenger Cup 2023, held in Doha, Qatar. After experiencing setbacks in their 2019 and 2022 campaigns, the Turks made their dream of competing in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) come true by clinching the coveted Challenger Cup trophy and a berth in the VNL 2024.
In the thrilling final clash, Türkiye came from behind to conquer a resilient Qatar side in a grueling five-set showdown. Türkiye, propelled by some impressive individual performances, claimed a 3-2 (25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9) victory. Their win not only signified their first ever Challenger Cup triumph but also marked their rise to the global stage by securing a ticket to the elite VNL 2024.
Turkish star Adis Lagumdzija led the match scorers with an impressive 21 points, followed closely by Efe Bayram with 18 points and Burutay Subasi with 15 points. On the opposing side, Mubarak Dahi Walid was the top scorer for Qatar with 12 points.
The bronze medals were taken home by the Ukraine team. In their inaugural Challenger Cup appearance, they managed to secure a place on the podium, mastering a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) shutout against Chile in the match for third place.
