Egypt delivered one of the early surprises of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, defeating Iran 3-1 in their Pool A opener in Pasay City.

Egypt claimed the match with set scores of 25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20. Egypt’s attack proved decisive. The team registered more spike kills (52–45) and more aces (8–4) than their opponents, consistently applying pressure from the service line and at the net.
Outside hitter Ahmed Shafik Said spearheaded the offense with 18 points, converting at an efficient 62% success rate. His teammate Abdelrahman Elhossiny contributed 17 points, performing with remarkable 65% efficiency, while also adding a kill block and an ace. Opposite Seif Abed provided steady support with 12 points, ensuring balance in the attack.
For Iran, opposite Ali Hajipour stood out with 17 points, including three blocks and an ace, while 21-year-old outside hitter Poriya Khanzadeh added 12 points, highlighted by three aces. Despite outblocking Egypt 10–7 and committing fewer errors overall, Iran could not contain the Egyptians’ sharp offensive rhythm.
