Czechia’s incredible journey at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in the Philippines reached new heights as they defeated Iran 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21) in the quarterfinals.
The spirited comeback saw Czechia recover from losing the opening set to storm back with three straight wins, driven by composure and fewer costly errors. Libero Milan Monik stood out defensively, while opposite Patrik Indra led the scoring with a match-high 22 points, showcasing his efficiency at a 69% success rate. Outside hitter Lukas Vasina followed closely with 21 points.
For Iran, Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh and Ali Hajipour each tallied 18 points. Despite their efforts and a strong start, Iran struggled with unforced errors that ultimately tipped the balance in Czechia’s favor.
With the win, Czechia advances to Saturday’s semifinal in Pasay City, where they will face either Bulgaria for a chance to reach their first-ever World Championship final. In the other semifinal, Poland will meet Italy in a heavyweight clash.
The tournament runs through September 28 in Manila, where volleyball fans await to see if Italy can defend their crown or if a new champion will emerge.
