The reigning Bundesliga Frauen champions Stuttgart have fallen at home ground against Aachen in the tie-break of the big match of Round 7. That tie-break was really special. Instead of being played as usual, until one of the teams reaches 15 points, it was played to a point difference and lasted for nearly half an hour, which was more than any of the other four sets in the match. The final score was 3-2 (25-18, 25-16, 17-25, 18-25, 25-23) in the favor of the second-placed Aachen (6-1; 15 points).
As for Stuttgart, they suffered their first defeat in the competition (5-1; 16 points). Strangely, given that it was obviously a derby match, Stuttgart head coach Ioannis Athanasopoulos left the team’s top scorer Krystal Rivers and one of the best players Cansu Aydınoğulları on the bench until the finish of the first set and not put them as starters it in the second set as well. Coincidently, the titleholders lost both sets.
However, the American opposite hitter collected the game-high 27 points, while the Turkish setter was one of the key players for Stuttgart in tying the score at 2-2. The Swiss Maja Storck scored 25 points for Aachen.
