The 2025/26 Volleyball Bundesliga began with fireworks as VfB Friedrichshafen stunned defending champions Berlin Recycling Volleys 3–0 (25-18, 25-21, 34-32) in front of a packed Max-Schmeling-Halle.
Newcomers Barock Volleys Ludwigsburg almost made headlines of their own, narrowly losing 2–3 to vice-champions SVG Lüneburg after leading 2–0. Nyherowo Omene was outstanding with 32 points. Elsewhere, WWK Volleys Herrsching swept ASV Dachau 3–0 in the Bavarian derby, TSV Haching München defeated SV Warnemünde 3-1, while SWD powervolleys Düren cruised to a 3–0 win over Netzhoppers KW.
