In the postponed Round 9 game, Friedrichshafen defeated titleholders BR Volleys on the road in front of more than 6,000 spectators at Max-Schmeling-Halle, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 31-29). Thus, Friedrichshafen outplayed fierce rivals for the second time this season, after scoring a 3-1 win in the national Supercup, and made a partial revenge on BR Volleys for losing the playoff finals to them last season.
As for today’s encounter, each set was highly competitive but the fourth was a real thriller in which BR Volleys missed a huge opportunity to take it to the tie-break. The hosts got themselves a 5-0 lead, but the side coached by Vital Heynen was approaching it a little by little (10-7) before tying at 14-14. After that, rivals traded points back and forth. Friedrichshafen had five match balls before Bartłomiej Bołądź blocked Robert Kromm’s attack to convert the sixth! Now, only a miracle can prevent Friedrichshafen from claiming the pole position for the playoffs.
The Pole Bartłomiej Bołądź and David Sossenheimer delivered 20 points apiece for the winners. An Australian Paul Carroll scored 21 for the second-placed BR Volleys.

I don’t want to say anything, but Philipp Collin has blocked Kromm.
6000 spectators? Not bad for a regular league match. Did we have higher attendances in europe so far?
