At a sold-out home ground Eurosuole Forum (4,000 spectators), the third seed Cucine Lube Civitanova beat No.2 seed Itas Trentino in Game 4 of the 2018/19 SuperLega Credem Banca playoff semifinals in three sets (25-21, 25-19, 31-29). Thus, Lube won the series by a 3-1 and earned a spot in the finals for the third straight season, the sixth overall. In the same time, Lube secured a place in the 2020 CEV Champions League.

Trentino had a chance to extend a duel but failed to convert four set points in the third set while Lube closed the match on their third attempt. Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov and Osmany Juantorena (75% attack, 15/20, one error) scored 16 points apiece for Lube. Cuban Robertlandy Simón added six kill blocks. Luca Vettori scored 13 points for Trentino, while Serbian Srećko Lisinac made four kill blocks.

The fourth seed Azimut Leo Shoes Modena rejected the first match point of the top seed Sir Safety Conad Perugia for advancing to the finals and tied the series at 2-2 thanks to a straight-set victory at home. Modena head coach Julio Velasco had an ace up his sleeve which he pulled out tonight. He put Frenchman Kévin Tillie in the line-up instead of Slovenian Tine Urnaut and it turned to be a winning card for his team.

The best scorers for the winning side were Ivan Zaytsev and Pole Bartosz Bednorz with 12 points each. Cuban Wilfredo León notched 14 for Perugia.

2018/19 SuperLega Credem Banca playoff semifinals – Game 4:

(4) Azimut Leo Shoes Modena – (1) Sir Safety Conad Perugia 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17), series 2-2

(3) Cucine Lube Civitanova – (2) Itas Trentino 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 31-29), series 3-1

Very surprised with Lube going to final over Trentino, who played the best volleyball throughout the regular season and finished the first. It seems that Lube finally found their rhythm, right when is needed.
On the other side, Trentino didn’t have enough strength to push it through the end.

Also pleasantly surprised with Modena taking Perugia into the 5th game, where everything is possible.

Re: @former_player
Actually Trentino finished 2nd in the regular season and Lube was essentially 2nd also. Lube played very strong and won the most inportant match, the 1st at Trentino. Having home advantage is and remains key in any playoff for professionals.
Congrats to Lube. They are a very strong team.
I fully expect Perugia to win at home Sunday. Its been a very good year for Italian volleyball and I expect it may even be better next year.
