The figures in contracts of players competing in Italy aren’t public but La Gazzetta dello Sport made the salaries estimate and composed the list of the 10 highest-paid players in the ongoing men’s championship (SuperLega) and women’s championship (Serie A) – both are considered the strongest per gender.
Wilfredo León, who plays for Sir Safety Conad Perugia, stands out among male players. The Cuban-Polish outside hitter, considered the best player in the world, earns € 900,000 a year and is far ahead of the rest of the players on the Top 10 list.
Among women, it’s a home player that dominates. Paola Egonu, the opposite hitter of Imoco Volley Conegliano and the National Team of Italy earns € 400,000 annually. Interestingly all players in the women’s list are either from Egonu’s club or from Igor Gorgonzola Novara.
