Cucine Lube Civitanova snatched the home ground advantage in the 2020/21 Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship finals from Sir Safety Conad Perugia.

Even though there’s no audience on the stands, cancelling the home ground advantage in the playoff finals is always productive. That’s what the 2nd-seed Lube did to regular-season winners Perugia in Game 1 of the Scudetto battle in the 2020/21 Italian Men’s SuperLega Credem Banca: 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20).

It doesn’t happen very often that the middle blocker ends the match as the top scorer, not only in his team but in the entire match. On the other hand, Cuban Robertlandy Simón is everything but an ordinary middle blocker – he scored 21 points for Lube (77 % attack; 17/22) today. Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León tallied 17 points for Perugia. Ukrainian Oleh Plotnytskyi made 71 % reception (31 digs, 2 errors, 39 % perfect).

The series is now moving to Civitanova with the Game 2 being scheduled for April 18.
