The renewal with one of the best, if not the best female volleyball player in the world at the moment, Paola Egonu for the 2021/22 season was made official by Imoco Volley Conegliano today.
Turkey’s Fenerbahçe Opet remained empty-handed. Egonu, who arrived in Imoco in 2019, played 71 games in two seasons, and practically won everything with the Serie A club, has renewed her contract with it.
Interestingly, the only match that the Conegliano side lost in the last two seasons – against Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia in December 2019 – was when Egonu was absent. In these two years with Imoco, a 22-year-old opposite hitter has won one Italian Championship, FIVB Club World Championship, and CEV Champions League, as well as two Italian Cups and Super Cups. Egonu was named MVP of the last final of the Italian League, the Champions League, and the Italian Cup, as well as of the final of the last Club World Championship and 2019 Italian Super Cup.
In the season behind us, she broke the record for points in a women’s single-match in Italy, which she previously held, by making 47 points. In total, Egonu has collected 1,437 points while wearing the Imoco jersey.
