Sir Safety Conad Perugia celebrate winning the first part of the regular season in the 2021/22 Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship.
Sir Safety Conad Perugia won yet another act of the ’eternal’ challenge, the biggest derby of the Italian men’s club volleyball for years, with Cucine Lube Civitanova. Nikola Grbić’s guys prevailed in Round 13 (the last round of the first part of the regular season) of the 2021/22 SuperLega Credem Banca in four sets on the road at Eurosole Forum – 25-15, 25-20, 28-30, 25-21. The ’Block Devils’ were heavily weakened with absences of the two starters, Anderson and Rychlicki, due to Covid. Lube could not count on Juantorena, but Ivan Zaytsev appeared in the lineup for the first time since the beginning of the season and scored 14 points, one point shorter of the top scorer in his team, Cuban Marlon Yant.
Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León staged the performance from the textbooks (27 points through 75% attack; 27/36, one error, and 84% reception; 19 digs, 47% perfect). Argentine Sebastian Solé set up four blocks and made a 75% attack (12/16). With the seventh successive win (fifth successive in the league), Perugia escaped vice leaders Lube six points (34-28), suffering only one defeat in 12 games played.
