Sir Safety Susa Perugia is the king of the regular season in the current Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship.
After making a comeback from a one-set deficit, Sir Safety Susa Perugia conquered always-hot PalaPanini in four sets in Round 16 of the 2022–23 SuperLega Credem Banca. The “Block Devils“ overcame the hosts, Valsa Group Modena, and achieved mathematical certainty of first place in the regular season with six rounds to spare. Perugia earned their 28th consecutive season victory overall, flexing their muscles in the rival’s sold-out hall (5,000 spectators) with a performance of great mental steel, particularly in the second set. Down by a set and 20-22, Andrea Anastasi’s wards found a way out and tied at 1-1 in sets. From that moment on, the current vice champions improved their play by a few notches.
Cuban-Polish from Perugia, Wilfredo León, finished with a match-high 19 points (four aces). His countryman by birth, Jesús Herrera, had 71% attack (10 of 14). The Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth topped Modena, who remained third with 17 points. Therefore, Perugia created an untouchable advantage of 19 points (!) and seven wins in relation to the closest follower, which is Itas Trentino (beat Cucine Lube Civitanova 3-1 in another derby of the round, yesterday).
