This status is making damage both to his club LPR Piacenza and the player himself. By the contract he signed with the Italian club, Marshall now receives reduced fee because he is used as a foreigner.
With the appeal, Marshall and his lawyer want to force Italian federation to review its position of treating the player as foreigner. The athlete’s lawyer asked for shortened procedure, believing that the Italian federation’s regulation on this is outdated and discriminatory.
“We are talking about an Italian citizen who is forced to play with the status as non-EU in our country. We await the outcome of our request, but we might not stop there. In fact, we don’t rule out the option of reaching out to the International Olympic Committee, too, which our volleyball federation is part of. If IOC confirms discrimination, Italy could be excluded from international competitions,” Marshall’s layer stated.
