Japan men’s V.League: Trefuerza, deprived of help from Omrčen, stamped by Panthers in Game 1 of finals

Panasonic Panthers won Game 1 of the Japanese men’s volleyball championship V.Premier League 2017/18 finals.

The top-seed Panasonic Panthers made 14 kill blocks as a team to reject No.2 Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza in Game 1 of the V.League finals, which was held in the half-full NGK Hall in Nagoya (5,920 spectators), by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).

The Panthers, for which the Pole Michał Kubiak and Tatsuya Fukuzawa scored 14 points apiece and Kenji Shirasawa made 4 kill blocks, paved their way for the win in the first set when they produced 7 kill blocks as a team.

As for Trefuerza, who could not count on injured Croatian opposite Igor Omrčen, Takuya Takamatsu delivered 13 points.

Game 1 of the best-of-two playoff finals will be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, on March 18.
