Top seed Jumbos prevailed over No.2 Skywalkers at home court in Incheon thanks to 21 points from Slovenian opposite hitter Mitja Gasparini and 13 from Kim Hak-Min as well as to the 12-7 domination in blocking. Choi Min-Ho scored 14 and Song Jun-Ho 11 points for the losing team. The Skywalkers’ import, Danijel Galić from Croatia, contributed with only six points, playing two sets.
By winning Game 1 of the final series, the Jumbos made a huge step towards winning the first championship title in the club history, statistics say. A team that began the finals with a win, took the trophy in the last 10 of 12 seasons in the V-League, which makes more than 83% of success. Interestingly, Game 1 losers Skywalkers made the only two exceptions in these calculations. They lost the first game to Samsung Bluefangs in the 2005/2006 season, but won the series 3-2. However, during the 2013/2014 season they won the first game, also against the Bluefangs, but lost the next three.
Game 2 of the 2016/2017 V-League playoff finals is set for March 27.
