Chiba, Japan – Japan swept South Korea in ruthless fashion while Brazil battled past France in a five-set thriller.
In the early match, Japan delighted the home crowd with a commanding 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-22) victory over Korea, pushing their record to 8-2 and solidifying their place in the top three. Korea, meanwhile, remains stuck at the bottom with just one win from ten matches.
Yukiko Wada led Japan with 18 points, including two aces and a 57% attack success rate. She was supported by Yoshino Sato (17 points) and rising star Miku Akimoto (11). Korea’s captain Sohwi Kang scored 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Japanese squad.
Later in the day, Brazil faced a tenacious French team in a rollercoaster match. Despite falling behind twice, the South Americans clawed their way to a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 15-11) win, improving to 9-1 and moving up to second place in the standings.
