WCHY M: Argentina to play for fifth place

Argentina advanced to a match for the fifth position of the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship winning a five-set battle with a stubborn Cuba at Baja California High Performance Center on Saturday. Nicolas Lazo, Bruno Lima, Brian Melgarejo, Luis Jimeno, Felix Chapman and Ricardo Calvo were the top scorers.

The South American side took the first set coming from behind and also the second when Cuba made a couple of changes in the starting lineup.

Argentina next plays against the winners of the match between Brazil and France, while Cuba will go against the losers for the seventh position.

Nicolas Lazo had a match-high 24 points to lead the scoring sheets of the Argentinean squad while Bruno Lima and Brian Melgarejo contributed 17 and 15 points. Cuba’s Luis Jimeno scored 23 and Felix Chapman and Ricardo Calvo added 13 and 11 respectively. Calvo, the setter of Cuba, recorded seven blocks and two aces.

Cuba held the advantages in the blocking (15-8) and aces (7-3) categories while Argentina were tops in the attacks (66-55).
