The national team of the Dominican Republic defeated sensational finalists Colombia by a 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 27-25, 25-16) in the final of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, to become the champions of the tournament for the second time ever. The first time the Dominican Republic won the Pan-Am games was in 2003.
Colombia tried to pull what they pulled against Brazil in the semifinal when they came back from two sets down and 16-21 in the fourth set. Colombia also survived two match points of the team coached by Zé Roberto. In the gold medal match, Colombia recovered from an eight-point deficit (8-16) in the third set but the best they could do was to extend it to overtime.
Brayelin Martínez scored 24 points for the Dominican Republic, while Bethania de La Cruz added 18). Amanda Caneo and Dayana Segovia tallied 22 points for Colombia.
Argentina beat Brazil in straight sets, partially 26-24, 25-20 and 25-21 in the bronze medal match.
