Quebec City is abuzz as Canada clinches a second consecutive win in the 2023 NORCECA Senior Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship, securing their spot in the semifinals set for September 2. The Canadians triumphed over Puerto Rico in a gripping match that ended 3-0, marking their second sweep in as many games. Captain Alexa Gray led the team in scoring with 12 points, closely followed by Emily Maglio and Kiera Van Ryk, each contributing 11 points.
Despite a vigorous effort from Puerto Rico in the third set, Canada’s superior performance in both attacks (35-29) and block points (14-6) paved the way for victory. On the Puerto Rican side, Neira Ortiz, Elaine Vazquez Rivera, and Pilar Marie Victoria all notched up eight points each. Canada now awaits to see who they’ll face in the upcoming semifinals.
In another part of the championship, the Dominican Republic also notched a clean sweep against Costa Rica. Dominating across all metrics—attack (45-20), blocking (6-2), and aces (5-1)—the Reinas del Caribe made short work of their less experienced opponents with a 3-0 win. The Dominican players Candida Arias, Vielka Peralta, and Madeline Guillén each scored 10 points, while Costa Rica’s Tamara Espinoza Rojas led her team with 8 points.
