In the final match held in Guanajuato (Mexico), Argentina beat title holders Cuba 3-1 (25-19, 21-15, 25-19, 25-20) to claim their first ever gold medal in the competition, second overall (silver in 2012).
In the clash of two undefeated teams and also teams that did not lose a single set before the finals, Cuban receiver Miguel López (currently playing in local team Cienfuegos) highlighted with 21 points. In Argentina, UPCN San Juan Vóley receiver Nicolás Lazo had 20.
A player from the winning team, Germán Johansen (opposite of UNTREF Vóley) was announced the MVP of the U23 Pan American Cup.
By taking gold medal, Argentina secured direct qualification to the 2017 FIVB Men’s U23 World Championship in Cairo, Egypt, on August 18-26.
It is important to emphasize that composition of the tournament was not complete because Brazil did not participate but it certainly does not diminish Argentina’s success.
Chile grabbed bronze medal after defeating Colombia in straight sets, partially 25-20, 25-16, 25-23.
